Environmental Dimensions of Place Service (EDOPS)
EDOPS generates structured environmental profiles ("signatures") for any location on Earth, derived from global datasets aggregated to hydrological basins at multiple scales.
Signature composition is spatially and thematically flexible. A request can name a settlement — resolved to its containing basin or to a multi-basin neighborhood — or a polity or regional boundary at a given date, resolved to the set of basins it encloses.
Signatures can include any combination of variables, grouped as bands: physiography, hydrology, climate, coastality, with optional historical enrichment from paleoclimate and land-use reconstructions.
EDOPS v0.4 is a research prototype, the environmental component of a broader Computing Place research initiative.
